Hi my name is Robert Hew Dalrymple. Welcome to my website, this page will talk to you about my background in sport.

I first gained an interest in sport when I was between the ages of 4 and 5. I distinctly remember watching England compete at the 2010 world cup, well compete is an overstatement ( we got mauled 4-1 by Germany) but despite this I fell in love with the sport.

I started playing football when I was around 8 for my local team and quickly shone amongst my peers and I rose through the ranks of youth football, by the age of 10 I had established myself as a top prosect from my year group and had trials at various different places. However suddenly my family and I had to move hours away which certainly halted my football career. By the age of 12 I was back playing again and still shining. I was falling evermore in love with football whilst still trialing sports such as cricket, tennis and athletics on the side.

After a few more years of competing at high levels, disaster struck. When I was 16, I had moved up to play men’s football and in one of the early games of the season I jumped up to win a header against a rather larger gentlemen and in the landing my stud got stuck in the ground as I turned to sprint away as well as my opponent landing with all of his weight on my ankle. I had a grade 3 tear on both my ACL, PCL and severely damaged my meniscus, this abruptly ended my playing days, as well as my ability to even walk for many many months.

After my injury I decided I didn’t want to give up on sport as it had been my whole life since I was about 4. So I threw myself into watching and writing about all the various sports I enjoy, such as rugby, tennis, cricket, athletics and still football, I’ve even dabbled in croquet, polo and table tennis .

When deciding what to do at university I only had one thing in my mind and that was sports journalism at Brighton university

So welcome to my website and I hope you enjoy
